Supervision I offer supervision to those counsellors, psychotherapists and trainees who believe that my approach is compatible with theirs and that we can benefit from learning from each other. Supervision is a form of peer support between practitioners of a same or related discipline. In psychotherapy and counselling, meetings are arranged at regular intervals, in a group setting or on a one to one basis, to explore issues related to supervisees' current work, its context, its resonances with the practitioner's personal and professional development and edges. The aim is to enable the work to be more effective, to watch over the safety of clients and practitioners, to explore specific dynamics and issues in order to understand and make therapeutic use of the process involved, to support fitness to practice. Amongst the many benefits of supervision is that it provides a space to exchange knowledge, skills and ideas, to enhance creativity, to prevent burn-out, to identify areas of further development and learning and to break the isolation in which some practitioners operate. Some professions do not make use of supervision in this way. Whilst I would not be able to provide consultations for the specific areas of work, I am available to offer peer consultations to those working in health, education or in settings where they are closely engaged with individuals or groups, who might benefit from support in understanding and dealing with the interpersonal dynamics of their role. |
